Adventure for Women
This outdoor adventure is specifically designed for hard working women. For women who put so much energy into their families, homes and jobs, GAP Mum is a chance to take some time out. The GAP Mum journey offers a huge adventure in the New Zealand outdoors, a chance to meet other women and experience something new.

Letter from a GAP Mum Adventure?
Gap Mum 2011
We made it! Over ten sunny days in November eight intrepid Gap Mums tramped, cycled and paddled from Lewis Pass to the Clarence Rivermouth.
We began with an afternoon at the Boyle Lodge.Nervously at first we contorted ourselves in a series of silly games then looked at the route and decided we were all a bit worried about not making it!So the evening was spent packing and repacking (in went the hip flasks, out went the hair products).
The St James was beautiful. We visited a secret blue lake, lay in the sun after long lunch breaks, met wild horses, swam in Lake Guyon and stormed up Fowler Pass (thanks Catherine!).
A quick transition onto our bikes and a tail wind – we flew down the road through spectacular ‘big country’ passed bemused farmers, confused tourists and very pregnant cattle.
We woke to low snow on the morning of transition two and were immediately embroiled in a rustic muster involving horses, yapping dogs and swimming wild beasts. The rafts arrived and our river adventure began –camp fires, botanising, rapids, laughter and friendship. Then the Pacific Ocean – bubbly, crayfish and smoked Kawhai.
It was a unique and fun journey for all of us.An awesome group of women Pam, Lynn, Joan, Penny,Nicky,Gill,Catherine and Mez put themselves out there andcommitted to having a time of their lives. For most GAP Mums it was the longest time away from work, family and technology for years. This adventure was truly valued.
Feedback from this inaugural Gap Mum suggests we run more.So we will!
The route worked well, as did people doing either the tramp or raft only, as did the endless sunshine and no rain. I will let you know next year’s schedule soon.
I am also looking to set up a fund so I can partially sponsor one woman per trip to come along on Gap Mum.This will be for someone who is really keen to step outside of her comfort zone and have an adventure but just can’t afford it. I now have some ideas of how I can do this and will have more detailsin the New Year.
