Claudia Petrie GAPYear 2016
Since leaving the Horizon’s course I’ve been working in Hong Kong. Perk of the job; a three month winter break. On an impulse I booked a return flight to Nepal ... I’m heading to Pokhara, to volunteer at a low funded school, teaching English, Maths, and in general playing games with the children ... then to Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, the mountains are calling again, so it’ll be something good I’m sure!
Alana Greene - Horizons GAPYear 2015
Without a doubt the best decision I could have made for life after high school! One of the only opportunities you'll get to to work, travel and experience these countries in a whole new way. Loved the course and the places it's taken me since!
Tom Averill - GAP Year 2015
America and my camp was absolutely amazing! Loved every minute of it! The people, the facilities, the kids, everything was just awesome and eye opening! Created and gave me such a great work ethic and made me become more of a mature and open minded person!

Sitting here at Auckland Int, waiting for my 7am flight after having about 3 hours sleep last night ...
Just wanted to thank you for all the work that you and horizons put in for the course and getting us overseas, it was a great course for me. Taught me new skills and an attitude towards my life.
Looking forward to getting over to the US and getting to camp Lakota. And seeing where it leads me for the next few years.
Amy Smith - GAP Year 2014
The Horizons Programme was an amazing 12 weeks! Your awesome leaders make sure everything you do is great fun and that you challenge yourself to your full potential. The skills you learn are so beneficial and open up lots of opportunities ...
Some of my highlights from the programme were all of the overnight trips and adventures, the camping and the team spirit that everyone has! The friends you make are awesome and I have unforgettable memories of all the good times! Such an exciting and full on experience, would recommend it to anyone who wants a challenge and a good time!

Greetings from Camp Oneka. The summer is almost over, so I thought I better update you on things:)
My camp is in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. To be fair, I wouldn't really call the mountains, mountains - they are more like small hills covered in trees, trees and more trees. It's sooooo foresty here. No wonder this area is packed with black bears.
I am the tower supervisor at camp. In our pre-camp week we had a 10 hour tower training session with a guy from The Adventure Network. The tower has 4 different rockwall climbs and on the third side, there is a vertical playpen, which is the kids' absolute favourite. We also do some commercial abseiling from the top of the tower.
A couple of weeks ago I went on an overnight hike three hours away from camp. I led the group and taught them how to read a map; looking for handrails, using the contour lines and so on. I really enjoyed it and was surprised about how much I actually remembered from the tramp we went on with you guys [as part of my Horizons GAPYear Course]. It was so satisfying to watch the kids taking in and using what I taught them :)
I'm so glad that I did the Horizons course. When I first got here, I never doubted once whether I was doing the right thing because I felt really confident, with all the skills you guys taught me. Not only the technical skills but all the stuff we learned about managing groups and being a leade rhave helped me big time.
During the first week both directors and counsellors told me, how impressed they were with the way I handled the kids and ran my activity. I'll thank you guys for that. I'm so grateful for all the stuff you have taught me:) It's an awesome course. Wish I could do it again!!
I'm leaving camp on the 22nd of August. I have booked a Trek America trip 'The southern sun'. We depart from New York and finish in LA on the 11th of Sep. After that I'll go on a surprise trip to visit all my friends and host family in Vancouver for 10 days and then fly to Toronto. I'm sooooo excited.
Once again thanks a lot guys. Hope you are doing well. Enjoy the rest of your winter. Our weather has been quite nice lately but we've had some quite severe thunder storms right over camp. It has been quite crazy and we've had to evacuate in our dining hall a couple of times. So exciting all the stuff you get to try- who would have known ;)
Lots of hugs,Lisa

I love the outdoors so the Adventure Leader Programme really appealed. I liked the idea of working in small groups and having a great student-tutor ratio during the programme.
The work opportunities after the programme were great and I was really excited about working for Full On in Italy.

Adam MacKintosh, New Zealand GAP Year 2010
Being from the UK, I had always dreamed of visiting NZ and exploring its beautiful wilderness. I wanted a gap year with a difference where I could combine travel, adventure and learning. I wanted to be put out of my comfort zone and hopefully learn new skills and discover new things about myself. The Horizons course offered all this in generous portions!

Shaun Rolston, GAP YEAR Experience Summer 2010
I chose to do the gap year program because I wanted a change of life style and to start my career in the out doors.
I made new friends and saw some amazing sights. I learnt the skills that I am able to use else where now. I learnt how to be a real team player and in that developing my self further to become the person and instructor that I want to be.
I now have training and experience that has helped me get a job I love. I am working at Outward Bound Hong Kong, and have signed a contract to stay for 3 years to be a full Outward Bound instructor. I will be instructing with the skills and qualifications that I gained from the Gap Year program.
