From backcountry expeditions to the sea, you'll be prepared to respond effectively and save lives when every second counts.

Over the course of five action-packed days, you'll dive deep into a wide range of topics, including advanced trauma management, wilderness survival skills, environmental emergencies, advanced airway management, cardiac emergencies, and much more. Through a combination of engaging lectures, hands-on simulations, and realistic scenarios, you'll develop the critical thinking and practical skills necessary to make life-saving decisions in high-pressure situations.

Horizons was involved in the creation of the PHEC course and we maintain the 5-day programme as we believe it meets the original PHEC standard and provides students with quality in-depth learning. The five day course is designed for those people who value learning, skills and want to build their confidence to the top end.

On completion of the course you will receive an electronic first aid certificate which is valid for 2 years and any unit standards gained. After 2 years a 2-day refresher course needs to be attended.

Booking details

Once your booking has been placed you will receive an emailed confirmation of acceptance, if not then your place has not been confirmed.

An online form will also be emailed to you. Please return this as soon as possible so we can cater the course to your needs and for administration purposes. 

Specific details for the course will be sent out 2 weeks in advance of commencement of the course. 

Pre-course workbook needs to be completed prior to the course starting. 

We aim to send out certificates within 2 weeks of completion of the course. 

An on-site accommodation option for Christchurch courses is available at a cost of $25 per night per person. Please send an email to enquire.

 

Unit Standard Requirements

6400 or 23406  is a pre-requisite for any PHEC course.

Don't worry if you do not hold this as we can assess for 6400 during the course.

 

T&C's

Your $500 deposit is fully refundable if you withdraw more than 28 days prior to the programme start.

If you withdraw within 28 days of the course start date, we will issue a refund less a $100 administration fee.

If you withdraw within 7 days of course commencement and do not reschedule your place to a later course no refund will be issued. 

NZOIA discounts must applied at time of booking (Code available through NZOIA website).

No refund will be given if you withdraw during the programme.

In the unlikely event that we cancel the programme a full refund will be given.
